Introduction
Multidisciplinary rounds (MDRs) are scheduled, patient-focused communication mechanisms among multidisciplinary providers in the intensive care unit (ICU). The surgical ICU team of National Cheng Kung University Hospital has developed and integrated i-Dashboard as a platform to facilitate MDRs. i-Dashboard is a custom-developed visualization dashboard that supports (1) key information retrieval and reorganization, (2) time-series data, and (3) display on large touchscreens during MDRs. In a cluster randomized trial conducted at a university hospital (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04845698), i-Dashboard increases the efficiency in data gathering and enhances communication accuracy and information exchange in MDRs. i-Dashboard has its niche market because the demand for MDRs exists in all ICUs, serving as an information management strategy that effectively facilitates information retrieval and enhances interdisciplinary communication in MDRs. In addition, i-Dashboard has a complementary relationship with various medical information systems. With the advantage of the low barrier for importing i-Dashboard to hospitals, i-Dashboard can be integrated with related medical information systems to enhance the clinical and commercial value of both products.
